Add Comment PAMANA's friends in Winnipeg, the Kayumanggi Philippine Performing Arts, performed Singkil and made to the next round on Canada's Got Talent! Congratulations Kayumunggi! You just shared our culture with all of Canada! LAUNCHING OF AMBASSADORS TOUR OF THE PHILIPPINES AND A TALK ON CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE PHILIPPINES FAMAS is pleased to announce that the Philippine Ambassador to Canada, Leslie Gatan, will be in Montreal on Friday, March 16, to launch the 7th Ambassadors Tour of the Philippines scheduled in July 2012. We will also have the rare opportunity of listening to Dr. Anton Juan, a Filipino professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, a UP alumnus, internationally acclaimed as director and playwright / theatre and social concerns. With his theatre background, Dr. Juan is an exceptionally compelling lecturer. He will appeal to a broad Fil-Can audience, young or old, new arrivals, migrant workers or old timers. Here's a link to Dr. Juan's Notre Dame University page: http://ftt.nd.edu/faculty-and-staff/alphabetical-directory/anton-juan/ Other useful links: http://www.up.edu.ph/upnewsletter.php?issue=33&i=507 http://www.panitikan.com.ph/authors/j/ajuan.htm This lecture is a prelude to fulfilling the bigger vision of strengthening the voice of Filipino-Canadians in the Canadian mainstream - to reconnect our Filipino youth to their rich cultural heritage and identity and eventually move on to a Canada-wide youth congress and come up with a roadmap to harness the community's potentials in three streams: political, economic and cultural. We also hope Dr. Juan's beautiful stage play called Bayan-Bayanan will be brought to Montreal, among other cities in Canada. The play is about the lives of overseas Filipinos and migrant workers and will apparently be a hit among Filipino audiences. The play has English subtitles so it could reach a wider audience.
